You can dilute your essential oils with a vegetable oil to avoid skin irritation, but you’ll still have a greasy bath experience. To enjoy a therapeutic, mind-enhancing bath, it’s best to dilute your essential oils using a solubol. Use according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Inhalation

This is one of the quickest and safest ways to use essential oils for focus and concentration. Each essence can be inhaled using various methods, but only a few are mentioned below.

  • Direct from the bottle: To dispel confusion and boost mental clarity, you may choose to pop open a bottle of a recommended essential oil from the list. Slowly moving the bottle back and forth, a few inches away from the nose, allows the aroma to enter the airways, and from there disperse.

Do take deep inhales of the aroma.

  • Hand Cup: Another method is to pour 1 to 2 drops of a single oil (or blend) into the hand, and then use both palms to warm the oil by rubbing. Immediately, with eyes closed and hands cupped over the nose, take deep whiffs.

I rarely recommend this method of application, and it should only be used in emergencies or cases where you encounter a quick onset of confusion or mental frustration. This route isn’t suitable for children. Ensure to watch your hands thoroughly with soap after.

  • Tissue: Another way to inhale the oil is to place 5 to 6 drops on a sturdy tissue, (or handkerchief) and take occasional inhales when you need support. Using a firm towel does hold the fragrance longer than paper towels. Always use fewer drops if elderly or pregnant.
  • Diffuser: You may choose to use a diffuser to support your journey to attain better clarity and focus. A diffuser disperses essential oils into the air in a regulated way. This ensures that the air isn’t inundated with the aroma, as some oils are potent and may give you a headache, or you might even start tasting the oil in your mouth.

For this very reason, avoid leaving your diffuser on 24/7. Modesty dictates that you diffuse for at least 15 minutes, and then turn off the diffuser to rest for another 30.

As there are various types of diffusers, some using water, heat etc., you may want to consult the manual to determine how you diffuse your oils, as this will largely depend on your diffuser type.

  • Room spray: If you don’t have a diffuser, they can be sourced at a reasonable price, but if you’re short on cash, a spray can be made and used.

A room spray can be made by combining essential oils with water. However, I usually try to dilute my oils in ethanol or pure alcohol, although it’s not being sprayed directly to my skin.

Note: You’ll never (ever!) need to administer essential oils for focus and concentration through oral use, unless taking an essential oil-infused supplement, which will also provide additional support.

One more thing, if you have furry friends —dogs, cats, birds etc., be careful when you diffuse essential oils around them. Some essential oils are toxic to young animals. If you have to diffuse, do it in another room.

Final Thoughts on Essential Oils for Focus & Concentration

There’s no perfect mind and using essential oils definitely won’t give you one.

With regular use, however, fewer mentally confusing and agitating days will be encountered.

You’ll bask in an increased level of sharpness and attentiveness, one never before experienced.

While you use essential oils, it’s also important to get sufficient rest. Don’t push ahead days on end without sleep, and expect not to experience a mental crash. Life doesn’t work like that, although some of us wish it did.

As you consider what oils and blends to use for focus and concentration, remember that your level of alertness affects how you perform and will determine results.
